SCOTCH OAT CAKES 4 c. medium oatmeal 1 tsp. soda 1/8 tsp. salt 4 c. boiling water i «. “bacon ‘fat or shortening Dissolve soda in about 4 c. boiling water. Add bacon fat and salt. Add liquid to oatmeal to make stiff dough. Roll out thin. Continue to rub rolling pin and board with oatmeal, if sticky. Cut in squares and bake in a 325 degree oven until lightly browned. Mary Marley DAD'S COOKIES . flour coconut tsp. soda 1 c. shortening 1 4. 2y eugar 4c. brown sugar 1 egg 2 tbsp. molasses 1 tsp. vanilla 14 c. rolled oats tsp. cinnamon tsp. nutmeg ¢ i 1 1 tsp. baking powder 3 1 1 tsp. allspice Mix all dry ingredients and set aside. Cream shortening and sugars until creamy. Add egg, molasses and vanilla. Blend. Add dry mixture until completely blended. Roll in small balls and place on ungreased cookie sheet.
