DIPPING CHOCOLATE Dear Edith Adams: Can you tell me how to make dipping choco- late so that I can roll some of the candies in it?-—Mrs. P. T., New Westminster. “To make your own dipping chocolate, melt two parts of semi-sweet chocolate with one part of bitter chocolate over warm water, allow to cool, then use for dipping.” HOT WATER BOTTLES Dear Edith Adams: [ have trouble with the hot water bot- tles I buy. They seem to wear out so quickly. Is there anything that I can do?—Mrs: P. W., Main St. “You will find that your hot water bottles will last twice as long if the steam is pressed out before inserting the stopper. Also, never fill it more than two- thirds full, and never with boil- ing water. When not in use, hang the bag downwards.” NYLON CURTAINS Dear Edith Adams: Can you please tell me how to launder my new, sheer, nylon curtains without their wrinkling?—Mrs. P. I., Prince George. “Many nylon fabrics do not need ironing but nylon curtains generally do. Wash nylon the same as rayon in lukewarm water with mild soap, rinse thoroughly and handle carefully. Nylon curtains look best if ironed while quite damp. After washing, fold the curtains in a towel, to retain moisture, and iron as soon as possible, with a moderately hot iron or at the “rayon” dial set- ting. Too hot an iron will cause the nylon to melt.” 13 WHEN EGGS SPATTER Dear Edith Adams: When I fry eggs they pop all over. Is there anything that can stop this?— Mrs. K. H., Mission. “Yes, if you sprinkle a table- spoon of flour, or a little corn- starch, in the hot grease and break the eggs into this, it will prevent the popping. It also adds flavor to the egg.” NAILS IN PLASTER Dear Edith Adams: When I put nails in my plaster walls they always work loose. Can you tell me any way to tighten them? —Mrs. W. W., Agassiz. “Yes, if you will saturate a small. piece of wadding with glue; then rap as much of it as possible around the nail and re- insert in hole, pressing in firmly, it should stay. Remove excess glue with a wet cloth. When dry, nail will be rigid. Any loose chunk of paster can be fastened in place with the glue”. CLEANING GLOVES Dear Edith Adams: Can you tell me how to clean gloves that are not washable?—Mrs. P. R,, Angus Drive. “Yes, if you make a mixture of Fuller’s earth and powdered alum and rub it on the gloves, you will find that it will clean them considerably.”
