DECEMBER 18, 1908 HITCH OCCURS IN HINDU LAND DEAL ------------------Prof. Teja Singh and Lighthousekeeper Irwin Reach a Deadlock in Negotiations for North Vancouver Tract. Teja Singh, M. A., the leader of the local Hindus and Sikhs, has bumped up against unforeseen obstacles in his project for the establishment of an East Indian agricultural colony. It transpired today that the negotiations for the purchase of a tract of 141 acres in North Vancouver municipality, located between Skunk cove and the Capilano river, fronting on English Bay from Lighthouse Keeper Irwin of Point Atkinson for $41,000 are virtually at a standstill. Although Teja Singh had $1000 in cash to bind the bargain, no money, it appears, was paid over. Meantime it is understood Prof. Teja Singh is negotiating for another tract as a site for the proposed East Indian market gardens, and Mr. Irwin has under consideration a handsome offer for the English Bay land from a Vancouver syndicate which is figuring on establishing a summer resort out there. The provisional agreement between Teja Singh and Mr. Irwin called for a cash payment of $1000, $9000 in three months and the remainder in two equal amount in one and two years, respectively.
