Each lot is tested for germination. Registered No. 1 wheat must germinate at least 90%, oats 85%, barley 85%. 4. Each sack is individually inspected and sealed by a Dominion Government seed inspector, who also seals to each sack a tag, showing the variety, generation, seed inspection number and the name of the seller. 5. Only varieties of proven worth and outstanding merit, determined by careful tests at experimental stations and on the farms, are accepted for registration. 6. Registered seed is inspected in the field previous to harvest. If the crop is not true to type, free from disease and pure as to variety, registration is refused. 7. Registered seed is seed produced from plants which have been selected for sueh valuable characteristics as high yielding ability, drought, disease and frost resistance, stiffness of straw, etc. These qualities make the seed more desirable and more profitable to use than seed purchased in the ordinary way, with the origin and pedigree unknown. 8. Registered seed is seed with a recorded ancestry; of good variety, free from impurities and weeds; of good sample appearance, of strong vitality, and cleaned, graded and sealed.
