Beat egg yolks, sugar, water, flour and baking powder. Add beaten egg whites. Bake in moderate oven. Turn out on damp cloth. Roll and cool. Unroll and spread with lemon pie filling which has been prepared and cooled. Roll and chill. This must be frozen or kept in fridge to prevent filling from molding. Mrs. M. Prosser Mrs. Gladys McKeever JELLY ROLL 5 eggs, separated. Juice of 4% lemon, 1 scant cup sugar, % cup warm water, % cup cake flour, plus 2 tbls. ordinary flour. Add 1 teasp. baking powder. Sift 3 times and add to well beaten egg yolks, water and lemon juice. Add vanilla if desired. Pour into shallow greased pan and bake 20 minutes. Spread with jelly or jam and roll. I find best results by adding 1/3 cup sugar to egg yolks, 1/3 to flour and sift, and 1/3 to egg whites. Use 350 degree oven to bake. Mrs. Christina Taylor DATE LOAF 1 cup brown sugar 1 cup boiling water 1 cup dates 1 teasp. soda. Add soda to boiling water. Pour over dates and sugar. Stir well and allow to cool. 1 cup white sugar 1 egg 1 tbls. butter 2 good cups flour Cream butter and sugar. Add well beaten egg. Add to date mixture (cooled). Now add well sifted flour.
