This idea coincides with the ex- poundings of The Advance of recent date. Money consistently spent in the larger centres only enriches those cen- tres and makes them larger and more prosperous at the expense of the small- er towns and villages. As a community advances and thrives ahead so the val- ue of property in that community will increase, hence the circulation of mon- ey in one’s home community increases the value of his home suroundings. The Saskatchewan government evidently considers it false economy to central- ize the spending of money in the large centres, It is hard to understand why people will sacrifice their own surroundings to enrich distant fields, and it is still hard- er to understand business men who are entirely dependent on local conditions who commit the same act of laxity un- der some pretentious excuse, Mr. and Mrs. F. The principle of the new burner, which is a St. Louis product, is to create a draft beneath the stump that will force it to burn itself completely from the ground. The cost of the kilo- watt hour after the first seveny-five hours amounts to one cent per hour, and each machine is capable of burn- inga dry, solid stump in less than seven hours, If the stump js particularly wet, it will take the burner approximately one whole day to complete the work, costing about seven cents per stump. Two motorists met with accidents on Sumas lake road Tuesday, both cars overturning. One was Harold Jinkin- son, Chilliwack, and the other J. Mc- Isiac, Chilliwack. The Dilatory Habit A very bad habit seems to have be- come prevalent in Langley public at- fairs in the matter of disregard of time for the commencement of social and public functions. It has become a recognized thing that half an hour be- hind the time advertised is about right, There is no excuse for an habit of this kind, which is not only inconvenient; but is a nuisance to say the least. It is not uncommon vo see patrons of social events calling at the advertised place at the time stated, only to find that half an hour later would be plenty early enough, If this habit is indulged in long en- ough it will cause a certain propor- tion of disinterest in these functions because it Is usually the busiest people who are on time. They value time in their business and social life, they work according to time and it is not reas- \onably fair to ask them to wait around eae gz time for the accommodation of the tardy ones, If an event is adver- tised to commence at a certain time, the only fair and correct thing to do is to commence when time is up and soon the late arrivals will learn that |time is time, id if they are not on hee they them: es are the victims of | their own carelessness. As long as pub- lic events do not carry a definite time) and are liable to commence at any- | | | time, there will always be late comers who hold up the works. Give the “Time is up" idea a trial during the coming | winter and the unorderly habit now | prevalent will disappear. —Langley Advance | !
