GIFFORD ly cup shortening 1 cup milk 1% cups sugar 2 eggs separated 1 tsp. vanilla 1 square bitter chocolate, 2 cups flour grated 2% tsp. baking powder Blend shortening, sugar, egg yolks and vanilla. Add alternately dry in- gredients and milk. Beat egg whites stiff but not dry. Fold into batter, then fold in grated chocolate. Bake 30-35 minutes in moderate oven. Frost with chocolate icing. CHOCOLATE CAKE By MRS. M. S. EVERS 4 cup butter 142 cups cake flour 1% cups brown sugar 2 tsp. baking powder 2 eggs 14 cup sour cream 14 cup cocoa mixed with 1% cup 1 tsp. baking soda (added to boiling water sour cream) Cream butter and sugar, add eggs and cocoa to mixture then flour and sour cream alternately. Bake in a moderate oven 350° for 40 to 45 minutes. CHOCOLATE CAKE By MRS. J. G. ROBSON 2 squares melted unsweetened % cup milk chocolate 1 cup sifted flour add 3 tablespoons of butter 2 teaspoons baking powder 1 cup sugar pinch salt 2 eggs beaten vanilla Beat together with an egg beater and bake in moderate oven. Y CHOCOLATE CAKE By MARTHA LOGAN Yield: 8x8x2-inch cake 2 cups Make-Your-Own Mix % tsp. vanilla (do not pack) 1% squares (1% oz.) unsweet- 34 cup sugar ened chocolate, melted % tsp. soda and cooled l% cup sour milk (or % cup 1 egg, well beaten sweet milk with 1% tsp. vinegar ) Blend Mix, sugar, and soda. Add milk and vanilla. Beat well. Stir in chocolate. Add egg and blend. Pour batter into cake pan (8x8x2 inches) (bottom rubbed with fat). Bake in moderate oven. Turn out on rack when cool. Frost with your favorite frosting or serve with whipped cream or sprinkled with icing sugar. Baking temperature: 350 degrees. Bake 35 minutes. BAKING POWDER BISCUITS By MARTHA LOGAN 1% cups Make-Your-Own Mix % cup milk (do not pack) Make a well in the Mix. Add the milk and stir with a fork until all of Mix is moistened. Drop dough by spoonfuls onto a baking sheet. Bake in a hot oven. Baking temperature: 450 degrees. Bake about 12 to 15 minutes.
