COMPANY MEAT LOAF (Very Good! ) 1-10 oz. tin whole mushrooms 1% tsp. salt Cream dash pepper 1 egg, beaten 1 tbsp. minced onion 2 cups fine dry bread crumbs 2 lb. ground beef 2 tbsp. steak sauce 6 slices bacon Set oven for 350 degrees. Drain mushrooms; mix the liquid with enough cream to make 3% cup. Combine liquid mixture with egg and next four ingredients and let stand five minutes. Mix in onion and beef. Place bacon slices across width of a 91 by 5 by 3 loaf pan. Lightly pack mixture into pan. Bake 142 hours. Drain fat from loaf; brush a little fat over mushrooms. Invert loaf onto a baking sheet. Raise oven temperature to 450 degrees. Place mushrooms on top of and around loaf. Bake ten minutes longer. Serve 6 to 8. Shirley Strokes SAUCY MEAT LOAF 1 medium onion Y) tsp. basil 1¥2 pounds ground beef Y4 tsp. oregano Y2 tsp. salt 1 can condensed tomato soup Save 3 or 4 onion rings for topping. Place the rest in the bottom of a baking pan 8 by 8 by 2; cover onions with ground beef, break up lightly with a fork but do not pack down. Sprinkle with salt, basil and oregano. Top with saved onions rings, pour tomato soup over all. Bake at 375 degrees for 45 min. or until done as you like it. Meat forms a tasty loaf with rich gravy around it. Pack in loaf pan. Groove out a deep canal along top of mixture, but not as far as ends. Pour the following sauce in canal, but do not let it spill over sides.
