QUEEN ELIZABETH CAKE

Mix together
1 cup chopped dates
1 tsp. baking soda
Pour over dates
1 cup boiling water
Let cool.
Cream
Y% cup shortening
Add and cream in well
1 cup granulated sugar
Beat in
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
4 tsp. salt
Mix together and add alternately with the date mixture
142 cups sifted flour
1 tsp. baking powder
ly cup walnuts
Bake at 350° for 1 hour.

ICING

Mix together and boil for 3 minutes
5 tbsps. brown sugar
3 tbsps. butter
2 tbsps. cream
2 cup cocoanut

Pour over the hot cake and brown in the oven.

BANANA CAKE

Cream together
4 cup butter
142 cups sugar
Add
2 well beaten eggs
Sift together
1% cups sifted flour
14 tsp. salt
4 tsp. soda
Add alternately with
34 cup sour milk
Add
1 cup banana pulp
1 cup chopped walnuts
Beat well, turn into layer tins and bake in a slow oven.
Ice with butter icing flavored with banana flavoring.
