Add liquid alternately with flour, which has been sifted several times with the baking powder. Add _ flavoring and mix well. Fold in well beaten whites of eggs. Put in shallow greased pan and bake in moderate oven. Set aside until thoroughly cold and set. Cut in oblong shapes about 2x3 inches. Ice all over with icing made with icing sugar, cream and flavoring. Then using fork, roll in chop- ped walnuts or in cocoanut which has been previously browned in oven and let cool. Then remove and cool. Then add 2 eggs lightly beaten, 2 teaspoons soda in 4 tablespoons hot water. 1 teaspoon cinna- mon, 1 teaspoon ginger or ginger alone. Flour enough to stiffen. Put dough into a well floured large cookie pan. Roll out in pan with a glass and bake. Filling: 1 cup sugar (white) 4 or 5 tablespoons milk. Boil until it forms a soft ball in cold water. OAT CAKES 1 cup melted shortening 2% cups white flour 1 egg 1 cup brown sugar 2 cups fine oatmeal Pinch salt 2 level teaspoons soda in % cup warm water. OATMEAL NUT DROPS (Simple and Tasty) 1 cup shortening 2 cups oatmeal 1 cup sugar 2 cups flour 2 eggs 1 teaspoon soda 4 tablespoons sour milk 1 teaspoon cinnamon % cup each nut meats and raisins % teaspoon nutmeg. Cream shortening, % butter and % lard. Add sugar, either brown or white, as you prefer. Beat in the eggs and then the sour milk. Sift the flour with soda, cinnamon and nutmeg, and add to the liquid.
