V.M.P.A., in a letter of correction to the News, states that the Association’s Ladner condensary has not closed partly because better milk is produced in the Abbotsford district, as reported herein last week. ‘‘The reason that we are not operating our Ladner plant’’ Mr. Parks advises, ‘is because of the ex tra supply of milk needed in Vancouver to meet increased demands, which milk we draw from Ladner rather than De- lair, because of the closer proximity of the former to the City. The Ladner plant will again be operated when con- ditions justify our so doing.’? Oe rs. This time it is just across the street and on Friday morning. In Dee, 1912 fire broke gut in the Gazeley block, This including Alanson’s hardware ‘store, Brook’s general store, the B, C. Tele. phone Centfal, Whalen restaurant and McCallum’s real estate office were to- ta ally destroyed, the loss being sbout $32,000. Since then the Gazeley block has’ been rebuilt with other buildings. Last Friday morning, Jan. 30 fire was noticed in the rear of Henderson & Tay -lor’s land surveyors. Alarm was turn- ed in, but before action could be ta- ken the-whole building was a mass of smoke and flame, Mr. Taylor lost everything he had in the building, in- cluding valuable instruments and re cords, a loss totalling $2,000 with no insurance, At the regular meeting of the Board _| of Trade in view of the recent fire the question of Mire alarms for the town was discussed, but no action taken, The people of Sumas Dyking District are petitioning \the Provineial govern- ment not to grant the priv! ileges to the present dyking commissioners that they are asking for, and a Jargely signed petition from both ends of the Valley is being sent to Victoria. It is the firm opinion of many that diverting the Vedder river in the present dyking sch- eme is a most dangerous thing, ‘as it makes the present property owners re- sponcible for any damages that might result from the overflow of the Ved- der during time of freshet. Charles Hill-Tout has issued writs against Réeve Merryfield and T. Lehman andA.
