It was reported that the pump was out of order, the well required to be re-cribbed, and minor repairs made. Estimated cost of this work was stat- ed at $200, and the suggestion made that an effo uid be made to en- deavor have the hospital served with the village mains. A committee was accordingly named to take up this matter with the Commissioners. Former Abbotsford Girl Writes Giving Impressions Of New York An interesting letter has been re- ceived by Joe Olsen from his sister, Helen, who is taking post-graduate training as a nurse in one of Gotham’s big, hospitals. Miss Olsen is an Ab- botsford girl, and her impressions are recorded in the following excerpts: “Things are not too bad even thou- gh I am working hard, under condi- tions which are new to me.” ~ “I can never get used to the terri- ble noise for one thing. The cars are four deep each way right past the hospital.” “You ought to see the traffic regul- ations here. I wonder if there are any at times; a car can turn right a- round in the middle of the street any- where, and one has to be on the alert when near a cross street as they speed along without ever honking, and as for taxi's, it seems as if everybody uses them, and the drivers often get out and have a row with some other driver, right in the traffic—and at the expense of the passengers I guess “My room mate and I walked down Broadway or part of it one night— we are situated in the district where the shows begin and really you should have seen the crowds.” “We have not been to any shows a5 they are so expensive; two dollars for a talkie moving picture, on Broad- way. Of course there are others, but in the other end of town.” We have also’ visited Times Square. the busiest street in the world. and so it is. It is called” the cross roads of the world. There is ahuge news stand there and one can get any paper of the world there. I am going to get the Province one of these days “We are still having warm weather here, just like summer, but I guess it can't last much longer.” “There is a great deal of celebra- tion going ‘on here this week—this be- ing the Jewish new year, and nearly two-thirds of the people here are Jews.” “There are twenty girls in my class from every part of the world nearly, they come all the way from Ireland to take the course. This hospital is known the world over. And our study work we get from Columbia Univer- sity.” “But all the same I 4m counting the time when I can come home again.” John A. One of of given consideration and endorsed, was a plan of public health insurance, and meetings will later be held in various parts of the proyince, Mr. McCulloch reported, explaining all details of the scheme. The convention was addres- sed by Fire Marshall Thomas, who stressed the importance of regular fire drill by hospital staffs, and importance tion apparatus—a matter which, in the opinion of Mr. McCulloch, the local hospital should give special con- sideration. He concluded his report by reading excerpts from a conyen- tion papef on “ethical relations” of hospital directorates, nursing staff, etc. and tendered his resignation as chair- man of the House Committee. An account for $177 for services rendered in supervising the recent hos- pital improvements, for drawing plans, supplying material and attending the conyention, was received from Mr. Mc- Culloch, and tabled until the next meeting.
