The District of Chilliwack officially proclaimed March 9 to March 15 as Shakespeare Week in Chilliwack. A contingent from the Theatre department was on hand to receive the proclamation. This special Shakespeare week coincides with the opening of As You Like It on Friday, March 13. In making the proclamation, the District of Chilliwack “recognizes that the UCFV Theatre department has produced a Shakespeare play as part of its annual program for the past 16 years.” The success of these productions are seen as beneficial to UCFV and particularly to Chilliwack as a community and to the Fraser Valley as a whole. High school trades teachers impressed with UCFV On February 20, over 30 high school trades teachers and counsellors from the UCFV region and beyond visited the UCFV Trades and Technology Centre and the Career Tecnical Centre. Trades director Harv McCullough reports that the day was a real eye opener for the visitors. “As part of the day, we toured Overlander Manufacturing where some of our grads work. The teachers saw — for instance — that welding is no longer about working in dirty and dusty conditions. Our grads there work with the latest robotic welding units and laser cutters.” He notes that this is the first time in a few years that Trades has opened its doors for a visit by trades teachers. ““We’re collating the evaluations now, but so far, the response has been very positive”. The visit showed off UCFV programs and reviewed some of the recent developments in the Trades programs. Got stuff you don’t need? _ Donate it to a good cause.
