SWEATERS To shrink a sweater boil it in a solution of vinegar and water. To unshring a wool sweater soak it in 2 tablespoons of liquid glycerine to % gallon of water. To clean mohair sweaters use hair shampoo. SUGAR If sugar has gone hard: 1. steam the bag. 2. put in the refrigerator. 3. put a crust of bread or slice of apple in the bag. 4. place in the bread box. SUGAR BAGS To remove lettering from sugar bags try one of the following. . grease or lard the letters and leave, then wash. . bleach. . cold water and lye. . put benzine on the letters. ammonia and bleach. SUNBURN OP Oh To relieve sunburn, take a slice of potato and rub over the burn. TAPS Keep kitchen or bathroom taps from water spotting by polishing them with a coat of liquid wax. For removing water stains and lime off taps, use warm water and vinegar. It will clean and shine the chrome. TAR To get tar out of clothes soak the spot with varsol To loosen tar from fabric, floors or shoes, use paste floor wax. To remove tar or black heel marks from either tile or hardwood floors, just put a little wax on a cloth and rub the spot. To remove tar stains, cover them with butter, then wash thoroughly in benzine. Dry cleaning soap used with benzine will help. Soften tar stains with lard, then soak in turpentine. Take a knife and carefully scrape off all the loose surface dirt. Sponge clean with turpentine and rub gently until dry. TEA A pinch of salt in the tea pot improves the flavour of tea. To remove tea, coffee or cocoa stains, use glycerine. A fresh stain can be removed by gentle rubbing: if the stain is old, soak in the glycerine for some time.
