RAGGED ROBINS Whites of 2 eggs, beaten dry 1 cup walnuts, chopped Y2 cup white sugar 1% cups corn flakes 1 teaspoon vanilla Pinch of salt Y2 pound dates, chopped Mix corn flakes, sugar, nuts and dates together, then the beaten whites, vanilla and salt. Shape into small cakes with the hands or spoon. Bake on cookie sheet in moderate oven (350 degrees) until dry. SCOTCH COOKIES 22 cups white sugar 2 teaspoons soda dissolved in 1% cups butter hot water % Y cup golden syrup 1 teaspoon vanilla ‘ 3 eggs 7 cups flour ¥ Cream sugar and butter, add vanilla and rub in eggs, add soda, syrup and a flour. Roll very thin and bake in quick oven (400 degrees) 10 minutes. Use & different sized cutters. The very small sized cookies placed together with date, fig 3 or other fillings when ready for use, make a nice change. Cut and fold in flour mixed with the salt. Drop on a cookie sheet covered with unbuttered paper and bake in moderate oven (350 degrees) for 8 minutes. Ice with chocolate icing and put together in pairs with whipped cream between. Work in gradually, roll : out about Y% inch thick, cut with cookie cutter, bake in a moderate oven (325 degrees) for 20 minutes. SHORTBREAD 1 pound butter 4% cups flour 1 cup yellow sugar Vanilla if desired Cream butter and sugar thoroughly. Add the flour gradually, working in with the hands on the baking board until you have a good stiff dough. Roll about % inch thick and cut in squares. Bake in slow oven (300 degrees) 20 minutes.
