Add 1 teaspoon of soda dissolved in hot water and 1%4 cup flour in which % teaspoon of baking powder has been sifted. Bake one hour in moderate oven. MRS. PLAMPTON. MYSTERY CAKE 2 cups flour 1 cup butter Rub together and spread in pan 2 cups flour 1 cup brown sugar 1 cup walnuts 14 cup cherries 1 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. soda 1 tsp. vanilla 2 eggs well beaten Mix and spread over first mixture. HUNGARIAN NUT CAKE 14 cup brown sugar 11% cups flour 14 cup butter 114 tsp. baking powder yolks 2 eggs 1 tsp. vanilla Mix and pack in greased pan and sprinkle over it 1 cup walnuts.
