We were with her when she was first diagnosed five years ago and over the past years saw her struggle courageously with a devastating disease. Even when she was as sick as she was, she showed dedication and » commitment to her job and the bookstore. Our thoughts are with her family at this sad time.” “Marina was an incredibly courageous person who had a very | - dry and wonderful sense of humour. I often popped in to the bookstore knowing that she would provide some witty analysis of some current event. She will definitely be missed,” said Martha © Dow, Criminology/Criminal Justice program head. Marina Magnone =" Crim, faculty member Terry Anderson also shared some memories of Marina: “] have known Marina since she first found out that she had cancer. She was, from the beginning, perhaps the most couragous person that I have ever known. In spite of numerous setbacks, she remained focused on the hope of victory over cancer. I talked with her at one of her -lowest emotional points when she was offered a job that would eventually require her to reveal her past medical condition. . She wanted the job so much, and had - attended UCFV specifically for the purpose of this career opportunity. But, rather than covering up the illness (which - was in remission at the time), she courageously revealed her illness history “to the prospective employer, and was, as a result, ‘not offered the job. She was so saddened by this, but: * felt that it was ‘the right thing to do.” So, Marina was not only a strong, courageous and hope-filled person, but showed herself to be of high integrity as well. If lever have to face such a serious illness, I know I will remember Marina. She is truly an inspiration to me.’ Convocation corner Convocation is only 108 days away!
