DATE JUMBLE COOKIES Mrs. H, J. Mears 2c, flour le brown sugar ltsp, soda 2 eggs, beaten well 2 Tbsp. milk ltsp, vanilla 1/2 c. melted shortening l lb. dates, cut small 1/2 c. nuts, broken fine Mix first three ingredients, add next four ingredients, mixing well, then remainder and drop by spoonful, Bake in slow oven 300 degrees to 350 degrees for 10 minutes. DATE SHORTBREAD Mrs. H. Babcock Filling: 1/2 lb, dates Sugar (Small amount) 1/4 c. water Cook until soft and when cool add about 1/4 c. lemon juice or ltsp. vanilla. Shortbread: 3/4 c. margarine 2 tsp. baking powder 2c. flour 2/3 c. sugar Crumb these and add: 1/2 tsp. baking soda in 1 Tbsp. hot water. Mix intocball, Then half mixture. Roll out and press into pan. Add filling and top with remainder of shortbread. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 to 50 minutes. DATE SQUARES Ebba Neilson Cream: Add: 1/2 c sugar ) 11/2 c. flour 1/2 c. butter 1/4 tsp. salt 2 egg yolks (beaten) l tsp. baking powder ltsp. vanilla Press above into baking pan, Spread with dates (lc. or more cooked in 1/2 c. water).
