Traffic Was Checked Matthews Takes Sumas Council Seat of one vote, By a margin Ferd Matthews, McKenzie road, w elec- ted councillor for ward one, Sumas municipality, at Saturday's election. The vote was: Clarence Nelson (re- tiring councillor) 22; Ferdinand Mat- :]thews 23, Only three votes were polled in the forenoon, when the hall was practi- cally inaccessible, being blocked by snowdrifts on Whatcom road and by flood water three feet deep to the west on Vye road. Men were put at work by Councillor Nelson shovelling out a roadway through the big drift m road just south of the cial highway, and at a point north of the agricultural hall, and traffic was made possible in the early afternoon. This also made it possible to get food supplies to residents of Upper Sumas and Evan-Thomas, from whence a truck made deliveries to a point near Killarney farm. Here food supplies were ferried by raft across a flooded part of the road and distributed to families isolated near the Co-Operative warehouse. Rising water on Sunday made another deli- very impossible. One of the CHWK towers crashed during the storm, and through lack of power the station has been off the air. The management resourcefully. issued a daily bulletin, which sold xt 25 cents a copy. “LUSCIOUS” HOME CANNED FRUITS AND VEGETDABLES with the FLAVOR SEALED IN.
