1 TURKISH DELIGHT STRUDEL — Mary Krezanski 1/2 lb butter or margarine 7 tosps sour cream 2 cups flour 1 lb turkish delight 1 egg yolk 1 small jar Jambori jam Mix butter, flour, egg and sour cream as for pie. Divide pastry even in 4 balls, keep in fridge overnight. Mix 1/2 cup of icing sugar and fine coconut. Roll out pastry into 5” x 9” sprinkle mixture on both sides. Spread thin Jambori jam, cut turkish delight in half, place one by one, roll as for jelly roll. Wrap each in foil and freeze, bake when needed. Bake at 350° until golden brown. TRADITIONAL BRANDY SNAPS — _ HJ. Williams 3 oz syrup 2 oz flour 2 oz sugar 1 tsp ground ginger or grated lemon 3 oz butter To 1 tsp brandy (optional) Grease the handles of some wooden spoons. Melt the syrup, sugar and butter and allow to cool slightly, then add the flour and ground ginger or grated lemon rind, mixing well. Stir in the brandy and put in small teaspoonfuls, 3-4 inches apart, on a well greased tin. Bake in a moderate oven 375° until well spread and just golden-brown. Allow to cool for a moment, then lift off with a palette knife and quickly roll over the greased handle of a wooden spoon. Slip off carefully. If the biscuits cool too much, and are too brittle to roll, return them to the oven for a moment to soften. (Makes about 18) English measurement. SESAME CANDY — 8 Justina Stagg 1/2 cup honey 1/2 cup sunflower seeds 1 cup sesame seeds 1 cup macaroon coconut Put honey into 2 quart pot. Boil to hard ball stage. Add sunflower seeds and boil for a few more minutes. Add and stir in quickly sesame seeds and coconut. Put into oiled 8” x 8” pan with moistened hand. Cut into squares. Elwood-Oates 1/2” slices rich brown bread Demarara sugar 1 bana cut into 6’s Cinnamon sugar Lemon juice Toast bread lightly on one side. Butter on other side and lay on sliced banana to cover bread. Sprinkle on lemon juice to completely cover banana then sprinkle with demarara sugar and cinnamon sugar. Place under broiler until sugar goes like toffee. 25
