30 FRIENDLY CIRCLE—1949 Graham Wafer Fingers Zc. sugar, 4c. butter, 1 egg, 34 c. walnuts, 2 thsps. cocoa, % box graham wafers, 1 tsp. vanilla. Melt butter, add sugar, cocoa and egg, slightly beaten, stir well, cook to bubbling stage on top of stove, simmer 1 minute. Add vanilla, nuts and wafers which have been roughly beaten. Pour into greased pan, press down with spoon. Cover with chocolate icing. —Mrs. F. Brock. Ragged Robins Whites of 2 eggs, 34 tsp. vanilla, 1% c. crushed corn- flakes, sprinkle with a little salt, 1 full cup chopped dates, 1 whole almonds (blanched). Cook in a very slow oven. —Mrs. W. Rowe Dad’s Cookies 1 c. butter, creamed, 1 egg, well beaten, 1 c. brown sugar, % c. white sugar, 1% c. rolled oats, 1% c. flour, 2 tsps. baking powder, % tsp. each salt and soda, 1% cups fine cocoanut, 14 tsps. vanilla. —Mrs-. W. Rowe. Four O’clock Fingers 1 tsp. b. powder, % tsp. salt, % pkt. dates, % c. flour, 1 c. walnuts, 1 c. almonds, unblanched, 2 egg volks, 34 c. white sugar, 1 tsp. vanilla, 2 egg whites. Method: Mix all dry in- gredients, beat egg yolks and continue beating while adding sugar, add vanilla, then dry ingredients, fold in stiffly beaten egg whites. Bake very slowly. —Miuldred Crawford. | Cocoanut Fingers Combine 2 c. sugar, 2 thsps. cocoa, 8 tbsps. water, butter size of an egg and boil until it forms a soft ball in cold water. Have ready about half a loaf of day-old bread, crust free and cut in cubes 1%” in size. Dip cubes in hot syrup and roll in cocoanut, completely coating all sides. —Mrs. J. Vibert. Ginger Snaps 1 c. each shortening, white sugar and molasses, 1 tsp. salt, 1 heaping tsp. soda, 1 level tsp. ginger in % c. boiling water. Flour to stiffen. —Mrs. B. Howarth. Butterscotch Cookies 1% c. brown sugar, 2 eggs, 1 heaping cup butter, ™% tsp. salt, 1 tsp. vanilla, 1 tsp. each soda and cream of tartar, 3% c. flour. Cream sugar and butter, add eggs, then sifted dry in- eredients. Mix well, form into small balls and press down with fork.
