FROSTED WALNUT BARS Combine butter, flour and brown sugar to make a crumbly [ mixture. Pat firmly over bottom of 9 x 13 inch pan. Bake in slow oven, 325 degrees, about 20 minutes. Do not brown. 3/4 c. butter or shortening 2c. sifted all purpose flour lc. brown sugar 2 eggs, well beaten 1 1/2 c. fine coconut 1 c. brown sugar 2 Tbsp. flour 1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. baking powder l tsp. vanilla 1 c. chopped walnuts Beat eggs, add brown sugar, mixing well. Add flour, salt, baking powder and vanilla, blending well - add nuts and coconut. Spread over cookie base and return to oven to bake until topping is done, about 25 minutes. When cool, spread with lemon frosting. Cut into bars. Lemon Frosting: Combine: 2 Tbsp. soft butter 3 Tbsp. orange juice 21/2 c. sifted icing sugar 1 Tbsp. lemon juice Beat until creamy. : Mrs. G.
