12 CAKES RAINBOW CAKE - Mrs. Don Graham 2 1/4 cups sifted flour 1 cup milk 3 tsp baking powder 1/2 cup butter 1/4 tsp salt 1 cup granulated sugar 1/4 cup baking soda 1 pkg jelly powder (any color) 3 eggs unbeaten Sift flour, baking powder, salt and soda together. Re- sift 3 times, cream butter and add sugar and jelly powder gradually. cream until fluffy. Add eggs l ata time beating after each addition. Add flour alternately with milk in small amounts. Beat smooth after each addition, bake in 2 round 9"' pans or a square 9"' pan lined with wax paper. Bake 375° for about 25 min. Ice. BURNED LEATHER CAKE - Frances Lawson. 21/2 cups flour 1 1/2 cups sugar 1/2 cup butter 1 cup milk 2 tsp baking powder vanilla to taste salt to taste 2or 3 eggs Beat butter and sugar together, add 2 or 3 egg yolks then milk and 2 cups flour, add egg whites beaten stiff Last add 1/2 cup flour and baking powder, beat 5 min. add 3 tablespoons syrup to cake. BURNED SUGAR SYRUP - l cup sugar melted until brown add 1 cup boiling water.
