Bake in a long flat pan and when baked turn out on a dampened towel, spread well with jelly or jam, roll with towel around it. Powdered sugar may be dusted over if desired. Bake at 250 degrees for 10 minutes. SECOND PRIZE KIWANIS CAKE cup white sugar Y cup sour milk eggs, beaten separately 1 teaspoon soda cups flour Y% cake chocolate dissolved teaspoon vanilla in 34 cup hot water Y2 cup butter, creamed Let cool and add to mixture. Bake at 350 degrees. ICING: 2 cups icing sugar, 1 teaspoon vanilla, 4 tablespoons hot coffee, butter size of egg, 4 teaspoons cocoa. at WO) = (DEM.) ROLLED JELLY CAKE MARBLE CAKE 1 cup sugar 3 teaspoons baking powder Y cup butter 3 egg whites 1 cup cold water Flavoring 2 cups cake flour Cream butter and sugar, measure flour (before sifting), add baking powder and sift three times. To the creamed butter and sugar, add a little water, then a little flour, alternating until all is used. Beat batter hard after each addition of flour and water. Add flavoring and stiffly beaten whites of eggs. Divide batter in half and to one-half add 2 heaping tablespoons chocolate which has been dissolved over hot water. Drop dough in pan from spoon, alternating white and dark. Bake in loaf at 350 degrees. MOCHA CAKE 1% cups sugar 2 teaspoons baking powder 1% cups milk 1 teaspoon vanilla 2 tablespoons butter 1 teaspoon salt 2 eggs, beaten separately 4 heaping teaspoons cocoa 2 cups sifted flour Cream butter, sugar and yolks of eggs together; add milk and vanilla. Sift flour, salt, cocoa and baking powder together three or four times; add a little at a time, beating hard after each addition; then fold in the stiffly beaten whites and bake in three layers at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. ICING: 3 cups icing sugar, 2 tablespoons butter, 4 tablespoons cocoa, 1 tea- spoon vanilla, enough hot coffee to moisten to spread: beat well. DELICIOUS POTATO CAKE 1 cup sugar 1 teaspoon baking powder 2/3 cup butter 1 square grated chocolate $3 cup —o potatoes a cup chopped walnuts Y% cup mi 2 teaspoon cinnamon 1 cup flour Y2 teaspoon cloves 2 eggs Y% teaspoon nutmeg Cream the butter and sugar together, add the yolks of eggs (well beaten), then the flour, baking powder, and spices (well sifted together), next the milk; then add the potatoes mixed with the chocolate and walnuts. Lastly fold in whites of eggs beaten stiffly. The potatoes must be hot when mixed with the chocolate and walnuts. Ice with a white icing. Bake in a loaf pan at 325 degrees.
