Holtzen of Vancouver in June, 1931. Together with Pastor V. L. Meyer, also of Vancouver, and later Pastor W. F. Doeling of Victoria, the group was served more or less regularly for a number of years. The Lord's blessing rested upon the consecrated labors of these men, and in 1937 Candidate Hans Petersen was placed in Port Alberni to serve also stations at Parksville, Courtenay, Campbell River and Hornby Island. On July 6, 1941 Pastor A. L. Enders took over the work in this field, organizing the Port Alberni group into a congregation in 1944. During the next years the congregation grew quite rapidly, and in 1948 with Rev. R. H. Goetjen as pastor, the present church was built and dedicated to the glory of God. The congregation today, under Pastor G. E. Schultz, numbers 150 communicants and over 300 souls. Grace Lutheran Ladies’ Aid has been an active and faithful society, serving the congregation in many and various ways. Meeting each month for Bible Study, business meeting and fellowship, they have undertaken many fine projects for both the church at large and at home.
