ROOKIE COOKIES Y4 cup butter 1 tsp. baking powder | 34 cups shortening 4 tsp. salt : ¥% cup brown sugar | 1 tsp. vanilla 1 egg Y2 cup nuts | ¥Y2 cup white sugar Y4 cup chopped cherries glazed » 1 cup flour 2% cups rolled oats 1 tsp. soda Cream butter and shortening, add sugar and blend thoroughly. Beat in egg. Sift dry ingredeints except for oats. Combine with first a mixture. Add vanilla, nuts, fruit and rolled oats. Mix well. Form into small balls or drop from a teaspoon. Bake on oiled cookie sheet at 375° for 8- 10 minutes. (raisins can be substituted for cherries or nuts.) Yield — 742 dozen. Nan Smallwood BOILED RAISIN COOKIES 7 1¥2 cups white sugar ] tsp. nutmeg Yy cup butter 1 tsp. cloves 2 eggs 1 cup chopped nuts 1 tsp. baking soda 2¥2 cups flour E 1 tsp. salt 2 cups raisins 1 tsp. baking powder Boil raisins until all the water is gone. Mix other ingredients a in order given, add raisins and drop by spoonsfull onto cookie sheet. Bake 350° for 8 - 10 minutes or until done. Add 1 cup water to raisins and boil 5 minutes. Cool. Cream shortening and sugars, adding eggs one at a time beating well after each addition. Add vanilla, nuts and cooled raisins.
