TOURNAMENT OF FAST BOXING
BOUTS GIVEN IN ABBOTSFORD

Evidence that Abbotsford has its own

footwork, and a reaching long-arm
punch, which wickedly sliced over
Crouter several times, but did not con-

nect. The Huntingdon boy showed a
decided improvement over his last ring

DEATH CALLS WILLIAM PHILLIPS

Culminating an extended illness,
death called William Phillips, 74, at
the home of his daughter, Mrs. W. E.
Schnare, lower Sumas road, Abbotsford,
on Friday last.

Interment was made in St. Nicholas
cemetery on Sunday forenoon, Rey, Mr.
Fleck of Vancouver officiating. Pall-
bearers were old friends of deceased,
H. Hurum, G. Hay, W. Gray, B. Glad-
win, F. West and H. Onions.

Three sons and five daughters sur-
vive, beside the widow. They are Mr.
Ernest, Yale road, Abbotsford; Mr.
‘Thomas Phillips, Viking, Alta. Mr. W.
J, Phillips, Holden, Alta.; Mrs, T. W.
Swift, Viking, Alta.; Mrs. W.E. Schnare

; Mrs, Eames, , Al-
ta.; Mrs. T. Bishop, Holden, Alta.; and
Mrs. E. C. Green, Vermilion, Alta,

The late Mr. Phillips was born in
Birmingham, England, coming to Ca-
nada when a young man, and settlinz
near Parry Sound, Ontario. With his
wife and family he came west to Ed-
monton in 1892, leaving there to live
at the Coast a few years ago. He has
resided in Abbotsford for five or six
years, and was highly respected.

of agricultural leaders in this district
in a farmers assembling, marketing and
trop selection council. Generally, the
work of this body will be to co-ordinate
the efforts of market gardeners, berry-

was election of McKay over Frith with
a majority of four yotes, and the close
fight between Campbell and Starr.
Reeve Campbell won his seat with a
margin of one yote—almost repeating
the election tle of six years ago be-
tween the Inte Reeve Atkinson and J.
Cook (decided in favor of Atkinson by
“drawing” for the seat). Dawson and
Keeping had a well-balanced vote for
the positions of school trustee, 156 and
144 respectively, with J. Murphy third
showing 88 votes.

Austin won a decisive ballot over af.
Murphy for police commissioner, the
count being 139—96. The latter can-
didate also lost his ward contest with

Boley.
