Other re- latiyes reside in Eastern Canada. i The increased price set upon Sumas reclaimed lands by the provincial gov- ernment is said to be $300 per acre. Exceptional yields from the govern- ment’s experimental cloyer crops have convinced Mr. Barrow that $200 is too low a price for lands in the area. Incidentally the raise in price is cal- culated to enable private owners who are dissatisfied with conditions, sell out at a more favorable price. It is reported that the P. Burns Co. offered to purchase the entire area, with a view to erection of a huge ab- batoir and the ranging and fattening of beef cattle in preparation for market. As the only large area of grazing land available adjacent to Van- couver, the Sumas reclaimed “Gistrict would doubtless meet the requirements of such concerns, but the government displays a consistence to its original plan of dividing the area into small farmsteads, —— Dr. Blair Bell, of the Liverpool Re- search Committee has actually effected cures of cancer in patients too far ad- vanced in the disease to have any chance of recovery, according to ‘‘The People’’ an English newspaper tender- ed us by one of our readers with the request that we mention the discovery. Dr. Bell found that cancer cells are more easily poisoned than the healthy body cells. ‘‘Find then’’ said he ‘‘a poison strong enough to kill the germ- cell, yet weak enough to spare the rest of the body cells, and you have advanc- ed a big step on the road to the cure of cancer’? i In lead he found this poison—lead, which is deadly to the human body, but yet more deadly to the germ, and so to the cancer celt By skillful manipulation of the doses he found the amount that would dam- age the cancer cell badly and the body cell but slightly. _—_ oo ( Five deer were brought in to Strait- on from Sumas mountain on Sunday.
