Add molasses. Add eggs one at a time beating after each addition. Sift together flour, salt, baking scda and spices and add to the molasses mixture. Mix lightly. Add walnuts, apples and raisins. CHERRY SURPRISE BALLS 1 cup butter or shortening 1/2 cup icing sugar 2 cups sifted flour 1/4 tsp. salt 1 cup chopped almonds 1 tsp. vanilla 1/2 lb. maraschino cherries, drained Cream butter and sugar till fluffy. Add rest of ingredients, except cherries, and mix well. Flatten about teaspoon of dough in palm of hand, put cherry on top and cover with dough by pinching dough around it. Roll in hands to give a smooth surface. Place on greased cookie sheet and bake at 325° about 20 - 25 minutes. While hot, roll in sugar. Yield about 5 dozen balls. - Mrs. Ray Van Druten. Victoria.
