Ci me & OTS * 2 cups bread crumbs, stale 1 cup boiling water 2 cups flour 34 teaspoon soda V4 teaspoon salt 14 cup Rogers’ Golden i 1 eg thee sais sour milk 1 tablespoon melted butter * 2 eggs ly cup Rogers’ Golden Syrup 1 cup brown sugar 6 cup flour V4 teaspoon vanilla 2 squares melted chocolate l4 cup walnut meats, cut in pieces * BREAD CRUMB GRIDDLE CAKES Soak bread crumbs in the boiling water for 10 minutes. Mix and sift flour and soda. Beat egg, add Rogers’ Golden Syrup, and milk and add with flour mixture to first mixture. Beat thoroughly and add the melted shortening. Drop by spoonfuls on a greased hot griddle. When puffed, full of bubbles, and cooked on edges, turn and cook on the other side. Serve at once, smothered in Rogers’ Golden Syrup which has been slightly heated. CHOCOLATE SOLDIERS Beat eggs slightly, add Rogers’ Golden Syrup, sugar and remaining ingredients. Spread evenly in buttered 1 inch shallow pan and bake 20 minutes in moderately slow oven (325F). Cut in squares.
