Let stand 15 minutes. Mix together hot water, salt, sugar and shortening. Add 4. cups flour and mix thoroughly. Stir in yeast mixture and add remaining flour, 2 cups at a time, Knead dough until smooth and put in greased bowl. Let rise until double in bulk. Punch down and put into 4 greased loaf pans. Let rise again. Bake at 350° for approximately 50 minutes. WHOLE WHEAT BREAD (2 loaves or 3 dozen buns) Linda DeJong 2 T. dry yeast 1/2 c. warm water | 1/4 tsp. honey 1/2 ce oil | 1 beaten eag 1/2 ce honey | 2 1/2 ce warm water | 4 ce whole wheat flour | iT. sait | Mix yeast, 1/2 cup warm water and 1/4 teaspoon honey in a l cup measure. Pour into a large oiled bowl, set in warm place until double (about 1 hour). Stir down with a spoon and slowly add approximately 4 cups flour, stirring until you can no longer stir. Turn onto a floured board. Knead until smooth and elastic, adding flour if it: gets sticky, about 20 minutese Form into loaves and place in well greased pans and let rise until almost double in size, about 45 minutes.
