Household Hints _ Hanging clothes outdoors on a cold day may be made easier by pinning small articles, such as collars, handkerchiefs, etc., to a sheet before taking them to the line. Heat clothes pins in oven in cold weather and they will retain sufficient warmth to keep the fingers comfortable during the pro- cess of hanging out the clothes on a cold day. To remove tar—Rub with clean lard, afterwards wash with soap and warm water. To cure the sting of bee or wasp—Mix common earth with water to about the consistency of mud. Apply at once. When cream will not whip, add the white of an egg to your cream, chill it and it will whip. Peel onions under water and they will not irritate the eyes. To prevent the odor of boiling ham or cabbage permeating the house, add a little vinegar to the water in which they are boiled. Take cigar ashes and make moist. Rub on spot of furniture which has been spotted by water or steam. To make meat tender, put in a strong vinegar water for a few minutes. To freshen the color of window blinds, brush with linseed oil. If silver, after it is cleaned, is rubbed with a piece of lemon and then washed and well dried, it acquires an extra brilliancy, and it will keep clean longer than with ordinary cleansing. To clean black kid gloves, apply amixture of equal parts of good quality blacking and olive oil, paying particular attention to the parts between the fingers. Rub some dry mustard on your hands after peeling onions. Then wash in the ordinary way. You will find that all odour wild be removed. Handmade hand lotion—Half ounce gum tragacanth, 4 ounces cologne, 4 ounces glycerine, 1 ounce tincture of benzoine (plain), juice of 2 lemons and about 1% quarts of soft water.
