Weldon 2 cups sifted flour 1/4 cup chopped cherries 3 tsps baking powder 1/4 cup walnuts (if desired) 1/4 tsp salt 2 well beaten eggs 3/4 cup sugar 1 cup milk 1/2 cup raisins 3 tbsps melted shortening Sift dry ingredients. Add raisins, cherries and nuts. Add eggs mixed with milk and shortening. Stir slightly. Pour in greased loaf pan. Let stand 30 minutes. Bake in 350° oven about one hour. For variety — cook loaf in round juice can (about 30 oz. size not 48 oz.). DATE BREAD — Mbyrian Helms 2 cups of chopped dates and 2-1/2 cups of hot water. Let rise. Roll out dough then cover with margarine. Combine: 1/2 cup brown sugar 2 tsp cinnamon To spread over dough. Roll into a roll and cut. Put a little melted margarine and brown sugar in bottom of baking dish. Little is needed. After rising bake until done. 5
