Hadassah Vitalizing Force

There is no field of Zionist activity in
which Canadian Hadassah does not play
an outstanding role. Founded a little
over two decades ago, Hadassah today
is a vital and vitalizing force in the Jew-
ish community, and richly merits its
place of pre-eminence in the work of re-
building Eretz Israel.

In addition to its maintenance of the
Girls’ Agricultural School at Nahalal,
its support of the Convalescent Home
at Motza and its annual contributions to
the United Palestine Appeal, Canadian
Hadassah has this year also undertaken
the work of Youth Aliyah.

Today the agonizing cry of Jews who
are being tortured in Germany, Poland
and elsewhere in Europe has shaken the
conscience of the civilized world, and
there are many who are searching for
a haven of refuge for a wandering peo-
ple. In the midst of all this tragedy there
is one land in which the Jews are not
overwhelmed by the forces of destruc-
tion. That land is Palestine. There the
Yishuv is engaged in the heroic struggle
not merely to defend themselves, but to
protect the right of the thousands. of
homeless Jews to enter the land.

Our duty at the present time, there-
fore, is quite clear: As mothers it is
OUR task to save as many Jewish
children as possible from the inferno
that is Central and Eastern Europe. , As
Hadassah members we must. once again
rededicate ourselves to the work we

have done in the past. Today, more than
ever before, our institutions in Palestine
are being taxed to the utmost, our
services have been extended, and more
and more land MUST be bought if the
work of redemption is to be carried to its
highest fulfillment.

Ten years ago Junior Hadassah was
first organized in Winnipeg, and now,
comprised of eight chapters, it is a flour-
ishing organization carrying on the
ideals handed down to it. Junior
Hadassah has endeavored to instill in its
members the knowledge of Zionism and
of Palestine itself. On the practical side
it has to date concentrated on Baby
Creche work and contributed towards
the Jewish National Fund and United
Palestine Appeal; but now, in addition
to all that, it is directing its energies
towards Youth Aliyah work.

Winnipeg Junior Hadassah is proud
indeed to be a member of the entire
Canadian Hadassah family, and I ear-
nestly hope that the sincere friendship,
the hearty co-operation, the help and
inspiration which the Winnipeg Seniors
have at. all times been ready to give us,
show that they consider Junior Hadassah
a worthy foundation upon which can be
built the hopes of Zionism.
