BREADS 7 BRAN DATE NUT BREAD - Mrs. Don Graham. 1 cup hot water 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda 1 cup all bran 1 tsp cinnamon 1/2 cup sugar 1 cup finely chopped dates 2 tbls. shortening 2 eggs 1/2 cup chopped walnuts 1 tsp salt 1 1/2 cups sifted flour Pour hot water over dates and bran. Soak 10 min. Blend shortening and sugar add eggs, beat well. Sift flour soda salt and cinnamon. Mix in nutmeats. Add alternately with soaked dates and bran to shortening mixture. Blend well, bake in greased loaf pan 350° for 1 hour. BROWN BREAD - Mrs. H. G. Kirkpatrick. 1 scant cup brown sugar 1 cup white flour 1 cup graham flour 1 cup bran 1 tsp salt 2 tbls molasses 2 cups buttermilk 1 1/2 cups raisins 1 1/2 level tsp soda, dissolved in hot water. Bake in slow oven about 1 hour. RUSSIAN BREAD - Mrs. A. Davidson. 4 1/2 cups flour 1/4 cups sugar 1/4 cups butter 1 1/2 cups raisins 1 1/4 cups scalded milk 1 yeast cake 2 eggs Make a sponge in the morning with the milk and yeast- cake add 2 1/2 cups flour let rise about one hour then add ingredients and mix stiff. Let rise double in size put in pans and bake in moderate oven.
