ESL students in Abbotsford recently got to practice their English with Sharon Wagner of CNIB, who is featured in one of their texts. Wagner brought her guide dog Ned, her Braille typewriter, and her talking camera, and taught the students about the Braille alphabet. FVC going British again English instructor Art Ross and Theatre department head Ian Fenwick are teaming up once again on a study tour to England, Scotland, and Wales next spring. The trip will be a multi-faceted cultural experience, with daytime tours of places such as Hadrian’s Wall, the Shakespeare properties, the National Gallery in Edinburgh, the British Museum in London, and various castles and cathedrals. Students can earn up to nine credits by taking Theatre 102, Theatre 397, and/or English 220 as part of the tour, but studying formally is optional. Faculty and staff are encouraged to join the tour. | The month-long tour will depart on April 29 and return May 28. Cost of the tour, including airfare, hotel, transportation, and theatre tickets, is $3,500. Other costs, including food, will be the responsibility of participants. Ross and Fenwick are holding an information meeting at the Studio Theatre on the Chilliwack campus on Wednesday, Oct. 2 at noon. Registration begins Oct. 9, and a $300 non-refundable deposit is due upon registration. The tour is limited to 24 participants. Early interest is “very positive” according to Ross. Marriages Congratulations are also in order for registration assistant Mandy Cunningham, who married Jim Watts on September 14 at Robson Manor in New Westminster. Mandy is changing her last name to Watts. McVety to Haiti Agriculture diploma grad Paul McVety, featured in a Headlines story last spring, has received his assignment from the Mennonite Central Committee. McVety will be spending three years in Bwadlorens, Haiti, working as an agriculture extension worker.
