Pas = = ae 7 BUT TERHORNS 2 pkg. yeast soaked in 5 Cc. sugar lukewarm water with 1 c. warm potato water 1 tsp. sugar 1 tsp. salt 1 c. hot mashed potatoes 2 eggs (beaten) & c. butter (beaten Flour into potatoes) Add enough flour to make a soft sponge (about 3 cups). Let rise about % hr. Add another 3 cups flour to make a loose dough. Let rise again for % hr. Roll out and spread with butter. Cut strips and roll like a snail. Let rise until light. Bake in moderate oven for 20 mins. Ice and sprinkle with nuts. This recipe takes about 3 hrs. Ella Ohlhauser UKRAINIAN POPPY SEED ROLLS 2c. milk 1 tbsp..salt 1 pkg. yeast * c. melted butter approx. 9 c. flour 4 eggs 1 c. sugar Lemon rind Filling: * lb. dates cut up approx. 1/3 c. water lc. poppy seed 1 tbsp. ready~mix coconut l tbsp. sugar cream pie filling Dough:— Scald 2 cups milk and cool. Prepare yeast and add to milk and beat in 3 cups flour. Cover and let stand 1 hr. Stir in sugar, salt and melted butter and lemon rind. Beat in 4 eggs. Add 2 cups flour. Beat and add approx. 4 cups flour for a soft dough. Cover and let rise until double. Roll out like jelly roll and spread with filling, roll up and slice. Cover and let rise. Bake in 375 deg. oven for % hr. Reduce heat half way through to 325 deg. Filling:=- Cook over low heat until smooth. Cool. A few drops of lemon juice may be added.
