OLD FASHIONED JOHNNY CAKE

1 c. cornmeal 4 tsp. soda

1 ¢c. sour milk 14 tsp. baking powder
(may use butter- 4 tsp. salt
milk powder as 1 egg
directed) 2 tbsp. melted fat

2 tbsp. sugar

Mix the dry ingredients. Add milk and egg. Add melted
fat. Bake in greased pan in a fairly hot oven about 15
to 20 minutes or so. Pioneers' Favorite!

BOSTON BROWN BREAD
(Old-Time Favorite With Baked Beans)

1 c. whole wheat 3 tbsp. molasses
flour 2 tsp. baking powder

1 c. cornmeal ls Cc. stgar

lc. ‘ryé-flour Sour milk

Pere. salt Raisins, to suit

1 tsp. soda

Dissolve the soda in the sour milk, adding the molasses.
Mix all the ingredients together thoroughly, adding
sour milk alternately until thick batter is formed.
(Pacific buttermilk powder may be used as directed on
tin instead of sour milk and is easier to get). Put
into greased round tins. Cover tops securely and steam
