Purver Exhibition Attracts Record Crowd Of Visitors Outstanding stock exhibits featured Matsqui’s 16th annual exhibition, held at Gifford last week; the largest display of animals in the history of the Asso- ciation. Hall products were fuliy equal to those of former years in both quality and quantity, vegetables anl fruits being especially creditable. Indicating the substantial growth in interest in the event was the increased number of entries above last year—(a marked: success over previous fairs)— estimated at 38 per cent, nicely balanc- ing the prize monies, which have been increased in the same proportion. The attendance on Friday amounted to about 2,500, including exhibitors, offi- cials and the public, which, considered in conjunction with the splendid dis- play of Matsqui products, was sufficient proof of the value of small district fairs—evidence which lost none of its value with the government officials vo whom it was presented. Hon, E. D. Barrow Officially opened the fair, and complimented the exhibi- tion association upon their success, Other speakers were H. J. Barber, M.P., Reeve McCallum and Dr. J. F. Wood. Industrial booths were displayed by Western Fox & Fur., Co., R. A. Cooper, DesBrisay’s of Mission, Windebank of Mission (domestic water system), Un- iversity of B.C., and two refreshment stands and a chance concession did 4 roaring business. While stock judging was proceeding a children sports program was run off, and the clearing weather made con- ditions pleasant on the grounds. Re- freshments were served by Mrs. Kem- prud and assistants during the after- noon, and also at the dance at night, which was attended by a crowd of about 400, music by Dr. Wood’s orches- tra. A complete list of the prize win- ners follows, which does not allow space in this issue for a featured discription of an event creditable in many ways to its promoters. ~ The judges were S. J.
