FIRE DESTROYS BOTT HOMESTEAD Fire struck a pioneer homestead north of Straiton on Sumas Moun- tain when the Bott home was de- stroyed shortly after noon on Mon- day. The fire is believed to have started from the kitchen chimney and Tom Bott, who had been liv- ing alone in the house, had only time to save a few personal ef- fects, his rifles and some blan- kets. He is staying with relatives at Clayburn. Nazarene Sunday school had a pleasant but arduous hike on Sat- urday afternoon to Lost Lake. The boys, with their teacher, Rev. A. J. Loughton of Abbotsford, drove up as far as the old mill and then hiked over the ridge. They report many trees down over the blazed trail and ice still on the lake on one side, No fishing was under- taken as the raft was held in the ice. Weiners and hot drinks were enjoyed. The road from Straiton school to the lake trail was very rough with holes and deep ruts. A lumber truck was badly dam- aged this afternoon when it stal- led across the C.P.R. tracks on the highway entering Mission from the south and was struck by a shunt- ing train. Fadden gave a devotional reading while Mrs. Fred Corbett read an interesting topic relating to the conversion of Jews to Christianity. Part of the time was devoted to sewing and tea was served at the close.
