Personnel Notes Educational leave Faculty and Staff Educational Leave application forms are now available through the Personnel department (locals 4210/4206). All applications for Educational Leave must be completed and approved as indicated on the form and forwarded along with supporting documentation to Barry Bompas for consideration by the Joint Professional Development Committee. Deadlines are November 15 and February 15. Long Term Assisted Leave applications will be processed in the fall semester only; Unassisted Educational Leave and Short Term Assisted Leave applications will be processed in both the fall and winter semesters. Applications should be submitted well in advance of deadlines, to avoid possible failure because of technicalities which may be avoided with advance discussion. Occupational health and safety SFU’s School of Kinesiology is offering a foundation program in occupational health and safety. Interested persons can take the entire six course program or register for individual courses which include Occupational Health and Safety Law; Occupational Safety; Industrial Hygiene; Ergonomics; Preventative Health Care; the Change Process in Health and Safety, and Reducing Workplace Risk. Hatzic Rock benefit concert ~ Do your part to save Hatzic Rock, a Sto:lo transformer and the oldest known dwelling site in B.C., by attending a benefit concert on Sunday, Sept 22 from 1-7 p.m. at the Fraser River Heritage Park. Tickets are are $10, ($2 for children and $5 for students and seniors) and are available by calling Andrea Zaiser at 853-0843. Performers will include David Darby and Blackwater, Francis Xavier, Lynn Stevenson, The Salish Dancers, Rajka and the Hummin’ Birds, and others. Salmon barbecue and refreshments, a native and local silent auction, and sifting for artifacts will round out the day. Hatzic Rock is threatened by development, and supporters are trying to secure heritage designation for the site, which features a 9,000-year-old dwelling remnant. Theatresports encores Once again madcap humour and improvisational mayhem invades the FVC Studio Theatre in Chilliwack, as the Vancouver Theatresports League hits town with its own particular blend of crazy comedy Sept. 20, 21, 27 and 28. The Vancouver Theatresports League is one of the premiere improvisational troupes in North America. The September 20 show will feature a performance similar to the popular Scared Scriptless show enjoyed by Vancouver audiences. September 21 features a Theatresports workshop led by professionals, culminating in an evening Theatresports match between teams chosen from the workshop participants and captained by their instructor. September 27 and 28 offers matches between Fraser Valley Theatresporters refereed by a Vancouver professional. Tickets are $8 for the September 20 performance and $6 for the remaining three performances. The fee for participating in the workshop is $15 and registration can be done at any FVC campus.
