THE DAILY PROVINCE JULY 31, 1913 Victoria Alarmed Over Coming of Hindu and Russian Immigrants Woman of the Sikhs and Two Children Are Detained— Force Threatened. ------------------- Victoria, July 31.—Mrs. Inkdar. Hindu, two children and two Sikhs, Pala Singh and Kakan Singh, have arrived here and their presence has created a problem for the immgiration(Sic) authorities. The question of “through transportation” is the one that is vexing the authorities and the further fact that no Hindu woman has ever before been permitted to enter British Columbia. There are two other Hindus aboard the Nippon Yusen Kaisha, which is berthed at the outer wharf, but as these are returning to Canada their entrance will not be questioned. The official interpreter has been summoned from Vancouver, while the immigrants are being detained. Dr. Sundar Singh was at the steamer to meet them and declares that a refusal to land them will meet with legal proceedings which will force the Canadian authorities to grant their admission
