CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES 4, cup butter 1 tsp. baking soda 4, cup shortening % tsp. cream of tartar % cup white sugar 1/8 tsp. salt % cup brown sugar 1 tsp. vanilla 1 egg 1 cup chocolate chips 2% cups flour Combine butter and shortening. Cream thoroughly. Add sugars and beat well. Add egg. Mix lightly. Sift to- gether flour, soda, cream of tartar, and salt. Sift again into mixture, blend well. Add vanilla and choc- olate chips. CHRISTMAS COOKIES 1 cup butter & shortening % cup chopped peels mixed 1 tsp. cinnamon 2 cups brown sugar %, tsp. nutmeg 3 eggs % tsp. cloves 1 cup molasses %, tsp. allspice % tsp. soda % tsp. salt 1 cup raisins flour Cream the shortening and sugar. Add well beaten eggs. Dissolve soda in molasses and add, beating well. Sift one cup of flour with spices, add to first mixture. Sift a second cup of flour over raisins and peels and then add to first mixture also. Then add enough flour to make a stiff dough enough to roll. Roll 4" thick, cut with a small sharp cutter and bake on a greased cookie sheet in a moderate oven until golden brown.
