GUM DROP CAKE (Continued) Il tsp. salt 2 tsp. baking powder Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs; thenlc. flour. Add applesauce and raisins and rest of flour. Add gum drops last, sep- arating as you do so. Bake 2 to 2 1/2 hours in 300 degree oven. This will make 2 loaf size cakes. It is best to keep this for a few days before cutting. Joyce K. Green DATE CUP CAKES lc. finely cut dates 1 well beaten egg lc. boiling water 2 Tbsp. butter or other shortening lc. sugar l tsp. baking soda 13/4 c. pastry flour, sifted l tsp. vanilla lc. nutmeats, coarsely chopped Combine dates, shortening and water and let cool. Sift flour once, measure, add baking soda and sift 3 times together. Add sugar, egg and nutmeats to date mixture. Add flour and blend well. Add vanilla. Bake in small greased cup cake pans in moderate oven about 25 minutes. Take from oven when done and let stand for a few minutes, remove and roll in confectioner's sugar. This makes about 2 dozen. Mrs. George Wiley HEAVENLY SQUARES 1 can Eagle Brand milk 1/2 lb. marshmallows, cut small Mix milk and marshmallows. Roll: 32 graham wafers Grease pan and sprinkle some crumbs in bottom of pan. Mix remainder of crumbs with milk and marshmallows. Adda little salt and vanilla. Put in pan ontop of crumbs. Melt: 3 sq. semi-sweet chocolate Pour over mixture. Let stand in refrigerator to set.
