Date Loaf 1 teaspoon soda, 2 tablespoons butter, 1 cup dates, 1 cup boiling water, 1 cup sugar, 1 egg, 2% cups flour, vanilla. Pour boiling water over the butter, dates and soda, beat well, then add other ingredients. Bake in slow oven.—Mrs. G. Judd. Orange Bread Rind of 1 orange cut fine and boiled with ™% cup sugar water, till tender, 1 cup sugar, 1 cup milk, 1 egg, 1% cups flour or enough to make a stiff batter, 4 teaspoons baking powder, salt. Nut Marmalade Loaf | 43 cup each sugar and milk, 2 cups flour, 1% teaspoon salt, 34 cup broken walnuts, 2 tablespoons melted shortening, l egg, 3 teaspoons baking powder, % cup marmalade. Mix sugar with melted shortening, add egg and beat thoroughly. Add marmalade and mix well. Mix and sift dry ingredients and add alternately with the milk. Lastly, add walnuts. Bake in loaf pan in moderate oven for about 35 minutes. —M. Coleman. Chop Suey Loaf 1 tablespoon butter, 1 cup white or brown sugar, 1 egg, 2 cups flour, 2 teaspoons baking powder, 1 teaspoon salt, vanilla, 1% cups milk, % cup cherries cut fairly fine, % cup raisins, % cup dates, % cup walnuts. For variation substitute fruit mix for cherries and dates and add spices to taste. Mix ingredients together and bake about 40 minutes in 350 degree oven, —M. Coleman. Grape-Nut Bread Heat 2 cups milk, add 1 cup grapenuts and cool. Beat 1 egg well, add 34 cup sugar. Sift together 3 cups flour, 4 tea- spoons baking powder and % teaspoon salt. Add flour and grapenut mixture alternately to egg mixture and mix well. Place in greased loaf pan. Let stand 20 minutes. Bake about 50 minutes at 350 degrees. —M. Coleman.
