Facilities, continued from page 2 Education, and shuffling departments around in the other buildings as we do renovations.” The addition is expected to open in September ’92. As for the planned expansion of the Chilliwack campus, no formal plans have yet been made. The College received $10 million from the Ministry for new facilities in June. Some of that will be going to the Trades expansion. “Tt’s tough to say how much of the next phase of our Chilliwack development plan we can go ahead with,” says White.“We’d like to replace the existing, inadequate facilities and accommodate growth, but it’s a question of funds.” Planning for the Chilliwack expansion will proceed this year, with construction beginning next year. The theatre expansion in Chilliwack which was to go ahead this summer has been put on hold. Entrance to the new Trades facilities. Enrolment up — so’s demand Overall course registrations in academic and career/technical programs are up 28 per cent over the same time last year. About 3,027 academic and career students now account for some 8,930 course registrations. This includes 110 more students than last year. Even though the College was able to add a few new course sections in some subjects with the help of additional funding in June, it is still falling far short of meeting student demand. The number of unsatisfied requests for courses is nearly twice that of last year, with some 2,693 unsatisfied course requests this year, compared to 1,442 at the same time last year. More than 200 students have not been able to register in any course yet. Staff in the college’s registration office are calling students who are on wait lists if any spaces become available as-some students change their timetables or drop classes early in the semester.
