THE DAILY PROVINCE AUGUST 5, 1909 WHITES REPLACE HINDUS -----------------New Westminster, Aug. 5.—The supplanting of the Hindus at the Fraser River mills with French-Canadians from Ontario and Quebec will star this month. Twenty families will be included in the first arrivals, and they will be housed in residences put up by the company for its employees. It is the intention of the concern to replace all of its Asiatic labor with white help, the associations of the latter being much preferable to those of the Oriental, and more satisfactory work is expected from them. The mills are being run full time, and for a while all-night shifts were used, these latter, however, being discontinued at present. The average cut per day during July was 370,000 feet of lumber, the largest in any one day being 403,000 feet.
