ASIN eur 4 ww EIN ‘The Earl of Baldwin THONGS i ING) Ne CHOON OOOO NOON) Along with millions of others, Earl Baldwin, senior statesman and the former Prime Minister of Great Britain, was shocked and horrified at the cruelties displayed by the Nazis in their persecution of the Jews of Germany. He immediately put himself at the disposal of the British committee seeking to help the refugees and at its request organized the Earl Baldwin Fund for Refugees which solicited contributions from the British people to be sent through banks and financial institutions in all parts of the British Empire. Broadcasting his appeal over a radio network which connected every country in the Empire and the United States, Earl Baldwin said in part: “The honor of our country is challenged and Christian charity is challenged and it is up to us to meet that challenge. Thousands of men and women despoiled of their goods, driven from their homes, are seek- ing an asylum and sanctuary on our doorsteps, a hiding place and refuge from the tempest. Our first task is to rescue the thousands of unfortunate children with the utmost speed and to care for them while they are await- ing transit to the countries of settlement.” —_—~ 7 y The generous response that has been made to this appeal is a con- vincing proof of the sympathy which the world has to Jews in their present plight. iia) ATA eS SEER ERA!
