SALAD DRESSING CAKE cups pastry flour tbsp. cocoa cup white sugar tsp. soda Mr NM Sift together and add 1 cup salad dressing, 1 cup cold water, 1 tsp. vanilla. Bake at 375°F. - Mrs. May Johnson. 15 CHERRY POUND CAKE 3/4 = 1b. butter 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar 6 eggs (large), separated 3 cups sifted all-purpose flour 1/2 tsp. salt 1 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. flavouring 1 cup candied cherries (halved) Cream butter well, gradually add sugar and egg yolks, well beaten. Sift flour, salt and baking powder. Add half of dry mixture to creamed butter. Combine remaining ingred- ients with cherries. Add to mixture, blending well. Stir in flavouring. Gently fold in stiffly beaten egg whites. Turn into 10" tube pan which has been lined with 3 thicknesses ‘of brown paper, greasing layer next to cake. Bake 325° for 1 hour, 45 minutes. 3 - Mrs. H. CHERRY CAKE 2 1/2 cups sifted cake flour 11/2 cups sugar 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1 _ tsp. salt 1/2 cup. shortening 3/4 cup milk 1/9 cup maraschino cherry juice 1 tsp. vanilla 2 tsp. almond extract 4 egg whites (beaten) 18 maraschino cherries, well drained and finely chopped 1/2 cup walnuts (very finely chopped ) Sift flour, sugar, baking powder and salt in a mixing bowl. Drop in short~- ening. Combine milk and maraschino juice, add flavouring. Beat 200 strokes (2 minutes by hand or on a mixer at low speed). Add cherries and nuts and blend. Bake in 2 deep 9" layer pans in oven 375°F for 20 or 25 minutes. - D. Lawlor.
