CLAYBURN WOMEN'S INSTITUTE ABBOTSFORD, B. C. DEDICATION This book is dedicated to all our mothers, grand- mothers and great-grandmothers. Our homes today, as in their day, are centered around our kitchens. Many of these recipes date back to their day and we, the sponsors, have compiled these recipes and added a few of our own more modern ones in honor of these women. HISTORY OF CLAYBURN VILLAGE Clayburn is a small village situated about three miles from Abbotsford which is known as the "Hub of the Fraser Valley." Around 1906 brick-clay deposits were discovered in the mountains behind where the village now stands. A company was formed and a kiln built. Soon bricks were being made and the little village flourished. Naturally only one name seemed suitable for it and that was "Clay Burn" or Clayburn. In recent years this company sold out part of its interest to another company and is now known as the "Clayburn-Harbison Co. Ltd."' Their bricks are world famous. -Abbotsford, B. C.
